Upgrades
Fire alarm upgrades & alterations.
Buildings change. Fire alarm systems need to change with them, and old systems often can be improved without being ripped out.
When a system needs attention
- The building has been extended, partitioned or changed use
- New tenants, new equipment or a change in who sleeps there
- Frequent false alarms or recurring faults
- The panel is obsolete and spares are hard to find
- The fire risk assessment has identified gaps in coverage
- The system has no recent service record and nobody knows its condition
What we do
We start by inspecting the existing system: its type, condition, coverage and records. Then we tell you what is worth keeping and what is not.
- Extend an existing system into new areas
- Alter device positions after layout changes
- Replace detectors, sounders or a failing panel
- Upgrade a conventional system to addressable, or add wireless devices to cover areas that are hard to cable
- Improve zone plans, labelling and documentation
Not always a full replacement
Replacing a whole system is sometimes necessary, but often a targeted upgrade is enough. We will say which you need, and why.
FAQ
Common questions.
Can I add to an existing fire alarm?
Often, yes. It depends on the panel’s capacity and compatibility. We inspect the system and advise.
Can you work on a system installed by someone else?
Yes, after inspection.
When should a fire alarm be replaced?
When it cannot be reliably maintained, no longer covers the building properly or the cost of repeated repairs outweighs replacement.
